Because of the Horizon Deepwater oil gusher, the Louisiana marshes will never be the same again. I still remember my time there and hope I can return someday to a restored habitat although I highly doubt we’ll ever find a way to replace the delicate balance of this marine ecosystem. The above silhouette of a fisherman is off Pecan Island in the southwest part of the state, one of the areas that will be hit by the oil slick.

The otherworldly textures of Yellowstone National Park are truly something to behold

During the Vancouver 2010 Olympics the weather could not have been more beautiful (unless you were up on Cypress Mountain). This panorama was taken from English Bay with my back to Granville Island and. One of the great things about living in Vancouver is that even on an exhausting day, I can look up at the mountain skyline and receive exhilaration at the view. I know that wherever I live in the future, I’ll probably end up missing mountains in my life daily.

At the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone Canyon, on this particular day and time we had the sun at just the right angle to create a rainbow in the mist from the falls. Epic scenery indeed. I hated Yellowstone while I was there, the crowds, the sitting in traffic, the irritation. But now looking back, I really got some incredible photos and lifetime memories.

Banff National Park in Alberta has some beautiful scenery, but few vistas are more iconic than Lake Louise. People are bunched around the easy walk from the parking lot but walk a little bit to either side of the lake and you get fantastic unspoiled views like this one.

A popular hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, Alberta Falls was easy to reach from the main road. Three exposures combined and minimal saturation turned this one into a beautiful shot.

I saw this out my window at Lake Santeetlah and I was blown away… as I usually am at the beauty of nature. I went for an semi-subtle HDR effect and I feel like I kind of pulled it off.

driving back from Caesar’s Head, SC my breath was taken away as I viewed this foggy pond as I crossed into the NC territory on my way to Balsam Grove on HWY 215

This flowing water really resonated with me as I walked through Joyce Kilmer Virgin Forest near Lake Santeetlah, NC.

The forest is full of old trees, untouched by the vast logging efforts which devastated the region in the late 1800s. Underneath the canopy though lies beautiful flowing water like this.
