This man just purchased a Tornado Potato.

I’d be skeptical of any food named after a natural disaster as well. I’m thinking of rolling out more devastation based food treats, for example: Cyclone Carrots, Tsunami Salami or Hot Beef Sundaes (while not specifically named after a natural disaster, eat one and you’ll see why they fit in this category).

This weekend in Western North Carolina I found an old abandoned car in the township of Balsam. Someone likely saved up for this vehicle and for whatever reason, it has been left abandoned for a while because now grass has surrounded it. A story that will be left untold for those that spot the automobile among the weeds.

Because of the Horizon Deepwater oil gusher, the Louisiana marshes will never be the same again. I still remember my time there and hope I can return someday to a restored habitat although I highly doubt we’ll ever find a way to replace the delicate balance of this marine ecosystem. The above silhouette of a fisherman is off Pecan Island in the southwest part of the state, one of the areas that will be hit by the oil slick.

“Believe it or not, somewhere between the cigarettes and the philosophy, this is where culture is born” captured @ Emily Carr on Granville Island. I found this sign particularly relevant because it demonstrates some of the local angst around the Olympics.

Randomly invited into a gallery during the Olympics, I found this amazing piece and worked with it for a few minutes taking about 40 or so shots before I could get the one I wanted.

While I didn’t spend a lot of time in the tent village, I swung by a few times. When I was walking along Hastings on Saturday most of the tents were gone. Here’s to the inhabitants of the tent village during the games and for all the homeless that have become the residents of Hastings St.

This is an old photo from 2008 but when I ran across it today nothing could stop me from posting it. I drove past this store on a regular basis when I lived in Brevard, NC but when @jegreen42 and @gill2003 were in town we had to stop and photograph it.  Nothing says North Carolina small town quite like a Sears appliance store and an Alcohol Beverage Control store in the same structure. Yes, North Carolina has regulated alcohol however unlike Canada we can buy wine and beer in grocery/convenience stores, just liquor must be purchased at ABC stores. This photo was featured on The Consumerist during several occasions, this being one of them.

Tim invited me out to the Rockabilly BBQ hosted by Puckett’s Farm Equipment and thoroughly enjoyed myself, mainly because there were a ton of interesting people out and about. If I were to vote on a best dressed I would have chosen this girl. Costume and car combined pronounced an amazing effect.

I’m processing the 680 images from the wedding I shot last week and came across this gem. I had a lot of fun shooting and it was great practice. I’m just glad I could turn out some great classic shots but also some really interesting images like this one.
