protest at Duke Energy HQ
On April 20th a group of about 300 protesters showed up at Duke Energy HQ in Charlotte, NC to rally against Duke’s expansion of the Cliffside Coal Plant 60 miles west of Charlotte. 44 were arrested.
I used my brothers Nikon D40 with kit lens, 18-55mm. I’m used to shooting with my Canon A650 but that camera is only good for HDR and static scenes. I absolutely had to use a DSLR for something as fast paced as a protest.
This was my favorite picture from the set because of the policeman’s name badge, the protesters in the background and the overall feel of the shot.
Some of the other shots were better or more journalistic, demonstrating the granny getting arrested, the crowd in front of the new Duke Energy tower, the overall wide shot of the crowd, or the chaos of it all but this one conveyed the exact emotion of the moment for me.
